Policies and Procedures

weddings2.jpgContacting the Administrator
The administrator will assist you in several areas: the disbursement of all wedding policies and materials, scheduling of weddings and rehearsals, and answering any questions couples may have.

The Wedding Facilitator

The wedding facilitator is available to assist you with making sure the rehearsal and ceremony run smoothly. He/She will also be available to answer any questions you may have prior to the wedding day.

Fee Schedule
The date and time of the wedding and rehearsal cannot be guaranteed until the completed wedding Application and Deposit have been received. The deposit is the amount of the "Building Use" fee. The remainder due must be paid and received two weeks prior to the wedding.

Wedding License
Colorado law requires a valid Colorado marriage license issued in any Colorado county. These licenses, issued by the County Clerk's office are valid for 30 days. The Summit County Clerk's office number is (970) 453-2561. Neither witnesses nor blood tests are required in Colorado.

The Officiant
Officiants of wedding ceremonies at Father Dyer will be either pastoral staff or a lay officiant. A number of "sample" ceremonies are contained on this site. Please select one service (or a combination thereof) prior to your consultation with our officiant. If none of these ceremonies meet your needs, please bring the ceremony, and/or readings you wish to have to the consultation meeting. If you wish to have a non-Father Dyer minister perform your ceremony, please contact the wedding administrator to discuss policies and rehearsal plans.

The Ceremony
Father Dyer Church is one of the only churches in Summit County open to non-members for use. Our only requirement to use our facility is that the ceremony be spiritually-based in any faith tradition or combination thereof (see sample ceremonies). We highly recommend that couples take advantage of premarital counseling. If you have completed premarital counseling, we would appreciate a letter from your counselor stating you have completed premarital counseling to satisfaction.

The Church
Father Dyer Church seats approximately 90 people in the nave and an additional 120 people in the Fiester Room. You may not use nails, tacks or tape on the pews. Candles are allowed w/glass holders in the chancel area only, due to the age of the building. You may request that the lectern and the piano be moved to accommodate the wedding party, but all other furnishings are to remain in place. Please speak with the Wedding Facilitator to make arrangements. Smoking and the use of alcohol are strictly prohibited in the church. The pastor and/or wedding administrator reserve the right to cancel any wedding at any time, including the day of the wedding, if this rule is not observed.

Flowers, Candles, Tape Players and Birdseed
The wedding party is responsible for placement of flowers, candles, etc. Following the ceremony, the wedding party or their designees are responsible for the removal of all belongings, equipment, etc. from the building. You may use the Father Dyer sound system for the playing of a CD, but it is the responsibility of the wedding party to run this equipment. Father Dyer staff people cannot be responsible for this. We request that birdseed be thrown in place of rice. Please plan not to re-enter the church after birdseed is thrown. There will be an extra charge if the custodian has to vacuum birdseed. Rose petals are allowed w/ a runner over the carpet.

The Photographer/Videographer
The wedding ceremony is a service of worship above all else. Therefore, flash photography is prohibited during the service. It is also considered inappropriate to take pictures during the prayers and exchanging of vows and rings during the worship service.*

*Under no circumstances is the photographer or videographer allowed in the altar area during the ceremony. Please "stage" those special shots before or after the ceremony. The videographer will be given a designated, stationary spot to run the video camera. The photographer needs to consult with the minister prior to the service.

*We recommend that you inform your guests of these policies as well.

Additional Wedding Resources
Our staff organist may be available to perform at your wedding for an additional fee. Please see the wedding music guide for more information.
